I have been planning to travel Europe, I’d like to have said it has taken months of thinking and lots of organisation… But. That’s just not me. Whoops. I have spent a whole two days organising this.
To start, I had to get an interrail global ticket (I opted for the 10-day ticket). I then looked for friends and family who live in Europe which makes finding a place to stay easy and cheap. I wanted to stay in a hostel at least once so when I’m in Frankfurt I’m staying in an 8-bed dorm for 2 nights.
The cities I’m visiting are:
- Brussels
- Antwerp
- Amsterdam
- Rotterdam
- Cologne
- Frankfurt
- Geneva
- Lyon
- Bourges
- Tours
- Paris
Five countries and eleven cities in two and a bit weeks, I’m pretty proud of myself to be honest. The best way to keep costs down is to make your own food, buy an interrail pass, stay with friends and family or find hosts on Couch Surfing to stay with.
I’m really annoyed that I can’t visit more countries, I have friends in Venice, Vienna, Monaco, Krakow and Denia that I wasn’t able to visit in the time I have.
Transport has come to £334 (£274 for a 10-day interrail pass and £60 for the Eurostar). I’m spending £32.91 on two nights at the hostel (which includes breakfast). I am expecting to spend far less than £30 a day on food, but my budget gives me a little wiggle room.
I make sure that everywhere I am staying will let me use the kitchen (or at least a counter that I can make a sandwich on).
I’m not really sure how many clothes to bring, but I’m sure two spare tops, one pair of jeans and a hoodie will surfice..?
